See bulletin It's not tomorrow. It's next Sunday. September 20th, 2015 is "National Back to Church Sunday." The idea behind this date and organization is to motivate people to "try church" again. It is also aimed at trying to get church goers to invite friends and neighbors back to church too. Not a bad idea. But what about THIS Sunday? What about the Sunday after Back to Church Sunday? The trouble we continue to find in these last days is that the "love of many grows cold" (Matt 24:12). What is meant is the love for the Word of God grows cold and incredibly more inconsistent. Following Christ isn't a daily or even weekly activity, but an activity we apparently have to call the nation BACK TO once a year. The pride of our nation continues to push out the love and humility of our Lord Jesus from our hearts. The kind of Sacrificial love we see in His payment of ALL our sins on the cross! The prophet Obadiah warned the Edomites "The pride of your heart has deceived you, You who dwell in the clefts of the rock, Whose habitation is high; You who say in your heart, 'Who will bring me down to the ground?'" When we get comfortable or when we feel secure, we get lazy. This is true just as much for our physical well being as it is true for our spiritual well being. That's why Obadiah warned the nation of Edom to return the Lord! He wasn't talking about a national get back to the temple Sunday. Obadiah was talking about going to the Lord for mercy, deliverance, for forgiveness, and for confidence in the Messiah, who is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! As Obadiah prophesied about the coming judgement, we too are reminded of the coming of our Savior of Judgment Day! Trust in His mercy and redemption from your sins. Rejoice in His gift to us of our inheritance, eternal life with Him in heaven!! National BACK TO Church Sunday? Sure thing! But how about EVERY Sunday.
