See bulletin Most Saturday mornings are chore and cleaning day at our house. Like this morning, there was even more of an urgency because we have company coming. Yet the kids usually do more whining and complaining about their chores than they actually do cleaning. We remind them, "Our guests are coming soon! Let's show our guest how much we care by getting the house nice and clean to welcome them!" Jesus once said something similar to His disciples in John 9:4, "I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work." We can relate to the disciples Jesus was speaking to here. Because we too often whine and complain. We too are often discontent with our situations and the work we have to do. We too sin against our Savior because our sinful souls are literally unclean. That's why Jesus, God's perfect Son, came to this world. He came to work. He came to do His Father's work to clean our sinful souls from our whining and complaining against our Heavenly Father's will. "While it is day," that is, while Jesus walked visibly in this world He was about His Father's business in bringing us forgiveness, comfort, and the promise of eternal life with Him in Heaven. And when Jesus goes on to say that "Night is coming when no one can work," He explains that our time is very brief and limited in this world where we have the blessed opportunity to work and serve Him until He comes to take us home!
