See bulletin A couple of weeks ago I took my older two kids who are 9 and 7 years old out bow hunting with me for the first time. We sat in a little pop up tent and had only about an hour left of light as we waited and watched on three buckets huddled up together. Probably about 20 mins in, they got restless. And what do you think happened next? They wanted to go for a walk. After about the third time asking I finally agreed. And about two minutes away from the tent we spooked a nice buck that ran not only right past us, but right pass the tent we were just in. Hunting takes patience. The wisdom found in Proverbs 6:4 says something along the same lines, "Give no sleep to your eyes, Nor slumber to your eyelids." You have to be patient, alert, and watchful at all times when hunting. Because the deer are always alert and watchful for the hunter! That's why Proverbs 6 goes on in verse 5 saying, "Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, And like a bird from the hand of the fowler." If you aren't ready for the deer, they will bolt at first glimpse or first smell of you. This section of Proverbs primarily has to do with finances and not getting caught up in debt. But it also teaches hunting tips, and much more important, spiritual tips to being patient, alert, and watchful in this dangerously sinful world we live in. Like a deer, we ought to be alert and ready to flee when walking into a spiritual temptation and trap. We need to be patient as we wait for God to answer our prayers for our daily needs and concerns we lay before Him. And most importantly, we need to be watchful at all times as we wait for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who has "delivered us" from the hand of the devil and from death itself. Jesus is who we wait and watch for to come and take us to our eternal home in heaven at any moment. Stay alert! Stay awake! Stay patient! For He IS coming. Hallelujah!
