Even though it is interesting to me, I can't carry on too long of a conversation about football. This is painfully obvious for two reasons. One, I don't spend much time watching football. Two, I grew up in Minnesota. ha ha! =] We Vikings have thick skin. At least this one does. I do enjoy listening to all the predictions people make about the season and the various teams and players. And I know there's an art to picking the right players for the right games in a fantasy football league, for example. All the stats, all the media, all the hype all comes down to the big show next year and the building anticipation of it. Pretty awesome! But what I CAN really take time discussing is something much more serious and much more unpredictable than football, and that's the coming awe-full day of Christ's return. Does the reality of that day strike you as alarming? Would you describe that Day of final judgment an awful day to fear because of your sin and disobedience to God? Or would you describe it with great anticipation in seeing the awe-full and awesome glory of our Almighty God and Savior? Maybe it's a little bit of both? If it's not on your mind at all than you may have a big problem. Although you can take or leave football without any impact on your eternal future, you simply can't be unprepared for Christ the King's return! Because Jesus doesn't have to predict, He tells us clearly what will happen... 31 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory... 34 "Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 41 "Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels." (Matthew 25:31,34,41) What could be more serious than this? We cannot predict when Judgment Day will come, but we can be ready! As we continue to treasure God's Word, we pray that the Spirit would help us pour ourselves into that Word with all the warnings, all the instructions, and all the promises of grace and forgiveness that help build our anticipation of Jesus' return... the big show! Until that great Day, may we continue to gladly join at God's house to hear of His sure victory won on the cross for our eternal victory from sin, eternal death, and the power of the devil! We can't afford to miss it! May the Spirit always bless us with the anticipation of coming to God's house each Sunday, so that Jesus our Savior will continue to prepare us for the Day when He comes to take us to His eternal, perfect home with Him forever!
